Minister for Interior Nisar Ali Khan despite adopting measures to change the law and order situation in the federal capital has failed in changing the existing ‘thana culture’, which is creating problems for the citizens.

Station House Officers (SHO) in various police stations have influential backing and are enjoying custodianship for the last five years of their respective police stations. esultantly, citizens are facing multiple problems particularly while registering an FIR.

Imdad Ali, a native of Karachi was robbed of his mobile phone, ATM card and laptop from his flat situated in Sector G-6.

Talking to Pakistan Today he said, “I went to Aabpara Police Station for registration of FIR but Sub-Inspector Mansoor has been using delaying tactics for the last five days and which has forced me to seek court intervention.”

He complained that registration of FIR is a Herculean task in the capital but much easier in Karachi where crime rate knows no heights.

Out of the 18 SHOs employed in the capital most of them have a tainted record and have registered fake reports in the past.

A senior police official, on condition of anonymity said, “To bring visible change in the police department the interior minister should change the entire lot of SHOs. Upright and dedicated officers should be appointed in order to eradicate the ‘thana culture’.”

According to information collected by this correspondent, 15 out of total 18 SHOs currently employed have served earlier in various police stations while more than 150 inspectors with a clean and excellent career record are awaiting appointments. Currently, SHO Sajjad Bukhari is being interrogated by the Supreme Court for registration of a false FIR on orders of the Inspector General Police (IGP). The murder which took place in Peshawar was wrongfully reported to have taken place in the jurisdiction of Shalimar police.

SHO Tanveer Abbasi of Shahzad Police Station who killed a suspect in a fake police encounter has now been appointed as SHO Margalla. Aabpara SHO Qasim Niazi is also known for his unclean record. Golra SHO Mehar Munawar was removed from Koral Police Station after an FIR was registered against him for allegedly backing a land grabber.

Known as land mafia in the police circle, he has been given charge of Golra Police Station. SHO Kohsar Gulam Baqar and SHO Fiaz Ranja who preferred being appointed in rural areas are currently appointed in Bani Gala Police Station.
