Public largely unaware about state police complaints authority's existence: SPCA chairman

PANAJI: The state police complaints authority (SPCA) chairman retired justice RMS Khandeparkar said that there is a need to create awareness among the public about the SPCA's existence to enable people approach it for justice.

Speaking to TOI Khandeparkar said that as per the media reports, it appears that the manner in which investigations are being conducted, there are still less cases reported before the authority.

"People are not aware of this institution and if there is awareness then people can come before the authority with their grievances," he added.

There are around 43 cases pending before the authority, to be heard. Khandeparkar said that about 10 to 14 out of 43 cases are absolutely of minor nature.

He added that only a few cases before the authority pertain to gross violations.
