District police chief has directed the special branch to submit a report on allegations levelled against the sub-inspector of women police station here that she had helped the person accused of sexually abusing a Mumbai-based minor girl to escape arrest. The charges were raised by other officers at the station.

It was on April 3 that a 15-year-old girl had approached the women police station with the complaint that she was raped by a person at a lodge here. The girl had reached the police station with the help of an auto driver, whom she met after escaping from the lodge when the accused was in the bathroom.

Police sources said the signatures of both the sub-inspector and the victim were essential in the statement given in the court. However, the woman officer had not signed the statement herself nor had she collected the signature of the girl, they said. District police chief A V George said the special branch had been asked to submit a detailed report. He said a hunt was on for the accused.
