Police has summoned Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed's father for questioning over a graft probe involving the opposition parliamentarian.

A police official said Mohamed Waheed from Haa Dhaal Atoll Kulhudhuffushi had been asked to come to police headquarters at 9pm Tuesday over a joint investigation with the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Mohamed is being summoned in order to clarify information required for the investigation, the official added.

Haveeru had found that the police are investigating a land bought by Ali Waheed's mother for MVR7.9 million in October 2011. Investigators want to find out the MP's involvement in the deal.

Although Ali Waheed had told the media that his stepfather had financed the deal, it was later found that Tep Construction, a leading construction company in the country, had paid for the land plot in Male.
