Justice Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmad has remarked performance of  police is a question mark and it is duty of police to ensure protection of citizens.

He further remarked “ Police fear merely  from talking to officers of intelligence agencies. What will they do  if they have to  recover some missing person from sensitive agencies. Protecting the citizens is obligation of police. IG Punjab should produce missing lawyer on next hearing no matter whatever he wills to do. No one will be allowed to show slackness and negligence”.

He gave these remarks while presiding over a 2-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) during the course of hearing of Zahir Ahmad Gondal advocate missing person case here Tuesday.

During the hearing of the case the petitioner Asif Taufiq advocate told the court police was practicing slackness and it knows where the missing lawyer is. “We are sure the missing advocate has been picked up by intelligence agencies Police be directed to get recover him. The number of missing lawyers is growing day by day and over 8 lawyers have gone missing uptill now”, he submitted.

Rawalpindi police told the court adequate steps have been taken for the protection of lawyers. Better security arrangements have been put in police in district court, high court premises where the offices of the lawyers are located. “We are in contact with intelligence agencies but they are not yielding any reply to us”, police further said.

The court reprimanded CCPO remarking police performance is next to nil. They appear in the SC, present report on paper and then go for long sleep . We will not tolerate it now”.

The court directed Deputy Attorney General to contact sensitive agencies on his own, Obtain information about missing advocate  from them and present the information in the court.

The court issued notices to intelligence agencies and IG Punjab and sought reply from them till August 30 in this case.
