Idukki: The Idukki SP, Sheikh Anwaruddin Sahib, has been summoned by the State Police Complaint Authority in a case related to a custodial abuse in which former Idukki SP N Nishanthini is also involved.

The complaints authority stepped into the case following a complaint that Percy Joseph, Manager, Union Bank, Thodupuzha, was taken into custody in 2011 and was physically abused. Apart from Nishanthini four other policemen were also involved in the case.

The police complaint authority directed the police chief in the district to conduct and identification parade to identify those police personnel. However, a reply was sent citing that the authority had no right to issue such an order and that the police had obtained legal advice in this regard. The authority has then asked the police to show the legal advice.

However, the Idukki police refused to comply with that either, saying it needed special permission of the DGP. Further, the Police Complaints Authority chairman, Justice K P Balachandran, suggested to issue summons to the district police chief.

The Idukki SP has been asked to be present at the Complaints Authority's office in Vazhuthakkad at 11 am with all the relevant files and documents.
