PM, Opp leader agree on names of chairman NCHR

ISLAMABAD (INP): After an agreement between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah over the chairman and members of the National Commission on Human Rights, their names have been forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee.

The parliamentary committee would meet on Monday (today) to accord approval.

According to sources Justice (Retd) Ali Nawaz Chauhan and Justice (Retd) Kelash Nath Kohli have been proposed for the post of Chairman of National Commission on Human Rights. Members of the commission would be included from the four provinces.

The parliamentary committee to be chaired by Senator Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah during its two day meeting would consider the names and give its approval.

The purpose of the commission is to ensure protection of human rights and take action on reports as and when received about violations.
