No pause in Karachi killings; 10 more dead

As many as 10 people were gunned down in various violent incidents here on Wednesday.

The brother-in-law of notorious Lyari gangster Noor Muhammad alias Baba Ladla was found dead from Lyari.

Gul Hassan, 32, was found dead from Tenary Road in Chakiwara area of Lyari. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital for autopsy. Police officials said the victim was the brother-in-law of Baba Ladla and was killed after kidnapping. He was the resident of Phool Patti Lane area of Lyari’s Baghdadi locality from where he was kidnapped allegedly by the notorious gangster Faisal Pathan. Faisal is associated with the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee chief Uzair Baloch. DSP Shakeel Ahmed confirmed Hassan’s killing.

Another close aide of Baba Ladla, Basit alias Basit Mout was found dead from Baghdadi locality, Lyari. He was also killed after kidnapping. Police officials said the victim was killed apparently by the rival gangster group.

Earlier, some unidentified armed men also opened indiscriminate fire at the house of Pakistan Peoples Party’s lawmaker, Sania Baloch in Lyari, however, no casualty had been reported. DSP Shakeel Ahmed said MPA Naz had asked enhancing the security as she had only two security guards.
A hotel owner was gunned down when he declined to pay extortion of rupees one million demanded by Lyari gangsters near Old Maripur Truck Stand. Police officials said the victim identified as Makiullah, 45, was sitting at his hotel’s counter when the incident took place. One of his employees, namely Javed was also injured in the incident. The victim and the injured were taken to Civil Hospital. Police officials said the victim was running Makiullah Hotel for the last many years. Lyari gangsters demanded Rs1 million extortion money from him and killed over his refusal.

An elderly man belonging to Shia sect was killed in Malir area. The victim was identified as Ansar Hussain, 60. Police officials said the victim was going to collect his pension when some unidentified armed men shot him dead.

In another incident of sectarian killing, some gunmen riding a motorbike targeted two students of Binori Town seminary near Mazar-e-Quaid. Ziaur Rehman died on the spot while Misbahur Rehman was taken to Civil Hospital in the wee hours of Tuesday. Scores of students of sympathizers were gathered at Shahrah-e-Quaideen and Guru Mandir and staged protest against the frequent killings of people having the same ideology. Additional IG Shahid Hayat assured the Binori Town administration for early arrest of the culprits in order to end their protest. 

An alleged member of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan was shot dead in Islamia Colony. The victim was identified as Hameedullah, 65. Police officials said a TT pistol along with a loaded magazine was also found from his possession. He might have been killed apparently by his rival group members. Further investigation was underway.

Murad Baloch, 32, was shot dead in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Police officials said the victim was the resident of Sacchal Goth area. He was going somewhere when some unidentified persons shot him dead apparently over personal enmity.

A woman was found dead from inside her house in Nawab Colony area of Baldia Town. Police officials said the victim was tortured to death. She was apparently killed about five days ago. Police officials said initial investigation suggested that the victim was apparently killed by her husband over unexplained reasons. Her husband gone in hiding since the incident took place.

An activist of Ahle Sunnat Waljamat namely Qari Lateefullah was gunned down near Sohrab Goth flyover. Police said the victim and other workers, including Zubair and Farooq were returning to their homes from the rally of Youm-e-Umar when some unidentified armed riders shot them dead and managed to escape from the scene. Police shifted them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Lateef succumbed to injuries.

A youth namely Faizan Nabi was shot dead at sector 4-B, Surjani Town.

Police shifted the body to ASH for autopsy and later handed over to heirs. However, police have failed to ascertain the motive behind the incident.
