Ahmedabad:Right from illegal detention of Ishrat Jahan and the three others to their cold-blooded killing on June 14-15,2004,they have seen and heard everything. And now, they are singing. The CBI in its chargesheet has submitted statements of 10 police officers recorded under section 164 of CrPC.

Cops have turned against cops in the case as the masterminds and conspirators find themselves in the crosshairs of their subordinates. This is the first time when junior cops have accused their superiors of forcing them to indulge in illegal activities.
CBI is investigating three other encounters by Gujarat police Sadiq Jamal Mehtar of 2003,Sohrabuddin Shaikh of 2005 and Tulsiram Prajapati of 2006.But in these cases,CBI has not got such cooperation from junior cops.

Ishrat chargesheet includes statement of assistant sub-inspector,Nizam Saiyed, who has said that just before the encounter on June 15,2004,he had gone to the central IB office in Ahmedabad and collected the weapons AK 47 and two 9mm pistols from there. These weapons were later planted on the four victims after the encounter.

Police inspector Ibrahim Chauhan has narrated all that he saw at the encounter spot.He recounted how he and another commando Mohan Nanji had refused to fire during the allegedly staged encounter. His weapon was then snatched and fired by assistant commissioner of police Tarun Barot.

Constable Moti Desai has revealed in his magisterial statement he had been posted at the Arham farms in the outskirts of the city where Amjad Ali Rana was kept in illegal detention and interrogated by crime branch officials.Desai had brought Rana to the encounter site.
