Jamaat's Attack on Police in Ctg 2 cases filed accusing over 300 activists

Two cases were filed yesterday against over 300 Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamaat-backed Islami Chhatra Shibir activists with Panchalaish Police Station in connection with the vandalism and attack on law enforcers at Badurtala in Chittagong city on Sunday.

Of them, 35 were shown arrested while 150 anonymous persons were accused in one of the cases filed under the Speedy Trial Act .

In another case filed under the Explosives Act, 43 activists, of whom eight were shown absconding, were accused by name along with 150 unnamed activists, said Panchalaish police.

Sunday morning, three policemen were injured when Jamaat-Shibir men attacked a police pick-up van and hurled brick chips at it. Police went there on information that Jamaat-Shibir men were gathering there to bring out a procession without permission.

They also exploded some seven crude bombs before fleeing after a Panchlaish police team fired 18 blank shots.

Witnesses said they also attacked a videographer of Somoy TV and vandalised five vehicles on the streets.

Soon after the attack, police detained 61, most of them from Chittagong College.

On Sunday night, police arrested a Jamaat activist, Nasir Uddin, and two Shibir men — Lokman Hossain and Mainul Islam — from different places of Sitakundu upazila in connection with rampages during different hartal hours and attack on police.

Meanwhile, police arrested Md Ayub Ali, ameer of Jamaat Chandanaish Thana, in Chandanaish upazila in a case filed for Jamaat-Shibir violence carried out in Dohajari on February 28 after the verdict of Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
