IGP meets regional police chiefs of KP

PESHAWAR: Provincial Police Officer Nasir Khan Durrani has urged the regional and district police officers to chalk out plans for curbing militancy.

“We need to be prepared for the impending threat and challenge,” said the IGP while presiding over a meeting of regional police officers (RPOs) at the Central Police Office here on Tuesday.The meeting discussed the security situation in Peshawar after three major bombings in the city within only eight days that killed 146 persons and wounded around 300 others.

The commandant of Frontier Reserve Police, Additional IG Investigation, DIG Operations, DIG Directorate of Counter Terrorism and AIGs of Telecommunication, Finance and Establishment attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the overall law and order in the province and various directives were issued to the participants for effectively curbing crimes and militancy in the province. All RPOs gave detailed briefing about law and order in their regions.

The RPOs were directed to identify places vulnerable to militancy. The DPOs were asked to coordinate with the quarters concerned for taking adequate security measures.The participants were also directed to chalk out modus operandi and put an effective halt particularly to terrorism and kidnapping for ransom.

The RPOs were directed to compile a list of the proclaimed offenders and send it to the CPO within a month.The officers were directed to guide the cops at the police stations, remove fear among the people about thana and take the people along by developing community policing. They were also directed to have zero tolerance for corruption.
