Police on Monday arrested four people in connection to a protest in Gaafu Dhaal Atoll Thinadhoo against President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik last month.

However, police are yet to reveal the accusations levelled against the four, but only said “they were arrested in connection to an ongoing case.”

It is believed that the men were arrested for trying to create unrest during a protest against President Waheed's campaign visit to the island on June 12.

No arrests were made on the day of president’s visit and police had said the protest had been carried out without much.

The president had said on his twitter, “Nasheed's MDP confronted us violently. Doesn't bear well for a free and fair election.”

Spokesperson of President Waheed’s Gaumee Ithihad Party (GIP) Masood Imad had said the protesters had shoved MP Ibrahim Muthalib who had to be rescued by police.
