Eight police injured in Shibir attack

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: At least eight police men including the OC of Chapainawabganj sadar thana were injured as activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir hurled crude bombs on them on Tuesday. The injured were identified as OC Bazlur Rashid, SI Rawshan Kabir, SI Manirul Islam, SI Saidur Rahman, SI Dulal Uddin, SI Mukul Hossain, constables Khairul Islam and Abu Bakkar. SI Rawshan Kabir said, activists of Shibir equipped with different weapons took out a procession in Chapainawabganj Government College to welcome the freshers at around 11 am.

Being informed police rushed to the spot. As they reached the college gate, Shibir men suddenly started throwing crude bombs on them. He added that they hurled at least 15 bombs. Police also fired a good number of rubber bullets to disperse them. Police recovered an unexploded Molotov cocktail from the spot. OC Bazlur Rashid said, police arrested five Shibir men from the spot.
