Is there a rhyme and reason for the declining crime before elections? There seems to be. With elections round the corner, the crime rate in Jaipur has come down by a huge margin.

Vehicle lifting is down by 32% as compared to January. Robberies have come down by 33% compared to February. The crime rate under some other heads has also dropped.

There are several reasons for the decline in crime graph following the announcement of poll code of conduct. The increased patrolling by flying squads to detect cash, liquor and other objectionable items may have played a key role in controlling crime. Besides, restricted movement of criminals prior to elections could have also led to the drop in crime rate.

The city police claim that special measures are being taken since the beginning of the year to prevent as well as detect criminal incidents. Addl commissioner of police Bipin Kumar Pandey said, increased police patrolling and detection of criminals soon after incidents have played a key role in bringing peace.

As part of preparations for polls, history-sheeters are being trackded by the police and hawkeye vigil is being maintained on the transportion of cash and other such objectionable items. A senior police officer said a special drive is on to trace criminals and mischievous elements.
