Commissioner of Police: Police will take all necessary precautions to avoid any disruption during elections

All necessary precautions by the Police to avoid any disruption on the voting day of Presidential Elections will be taken, says Commissioner of Police Abdulla Riyaz.

Responding to a question by DhiTv, the Commissioner said that no intelligence of any intended disorder have been received as of yet, but, because the Police are operationally ready for the worst case scenario, plans have been made to work in any condition.

The Commissioner also said that, if any intelligence of any intended disorder is received, necessary steps to neutralize such a situation will be taken beforehand and if any such thing occurs, all lawful actions will be taken to stop it. He also stated that  specific instructions as per elections have been stated openly and the law should be upheld, and as such the law should be implemented upon everyone no matter who or what position they are in.
The Commissioner furthermore stated that it should be made sure that the elections are held democratically in the Maldives and if any situation arises, the Police would not refrain from taking lawful actions. The Commissioner also noted that many Officers have been given refresher trainings and special tactical trainings for the security details of the Presidential Elections.
