BHC takes notice of top cop suspension

The Balochistan High Court on Thursday took a suo moto notice of suspension of a senior official of Quetta City Police.

Superintendent of Police Samiullah Soomor was suspended by Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch following a quarrel between guards of senior MPA Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and policemen at the entrance to Balochistan Assembly on Thursday. The official did not allow guards of Zehri a passage upon which his private guards and policemen exchanged hot words.

Taking notice of the incident and ensuing development, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Esa put the chief secretary, home secretary, IG Police and CCPO on notice for Friday (today). The court also issued notices to attorney general for Pakistan and advocate general for Balochistan.

Earlier, Chief Minister Dr Maalik Baloch suspended Superintendent Police Samiullah Soomro after a quarrel between armed guards of MPA Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and policemen at the main gate of the Balochistan Assembly on Thursday.

As per details, Zehri reached Balochistan Assembly to cast his vote for senates’ two general seats when policemen deployed at the main gate stopped his armed guards as the Balochistan Assembly Speaker had directed not to allow armed guards to enter the assembly premises. At this, Nawab Zehri’s guards and policemen started quarrel and exchange hot words.

Upon getting information, the CM came to the gate and suspended SP City Samiullah Soomro. Dr Maalik said that since Sardar Zehri had tribal disputes, therefore his private security guards closely guard him.

Police men deployed in and outside the Balochistan Assembly staged a protest after the incident, and said they have done nothing wrong expect performed their duties as per the directives.

Later, Chief Minister Dr Maalik and Speaker Jan Muhammad Jamali convinced the protesting policemen to return to their duties.
