41 policemen suspended for extortion

Forty one police officials have been suspended for their involvement in collecting extortion money, patronising criminals and drug dens, and being directly involved in criminal activities.
 
Thirty-seven officials of the South Zone police and four of the Aziz Bhatti police have been suspended.
 
The 37 officials included officers and personnel of different police stations in the South Zone, including Lyari.
 
No names or designations of the officials who have faced departmental action were released by the South Zone police.
 
However, it was learnt that six of them would be facing criminal charges on the directives of South DIG Abdul Khaliq Sheikh.
 
Separately, East DIG Munir Sheikh suspended four officials of the Aziz Bhatti police and ordered registering criminal cases against them for releasing criminals arrested with illegal weapons.
 
An East Zone police official said the suspended policemen included SI Mithal Shar, SI Shabbir Kharal, ASI Saheb Khan and Head Mohrar Chaudhry Naveed.
 
The official said that the four policemen had not only released criminals but also handed them their illegal weapons back.
